I've never built a concert uke, but out of all of the ones I have played, the ukes without fan bracing sounded the best.

Interesting because I was thinking of a teeny, tiny Y shaped brace going from behind the sound hole with one tone bar. No idea what that will do but what the heck!

Not that anyone cares, but I routed my rosette channel and then popped the pearl pieces in. I ended up having enough left over pearl from some past projects that I didn't need to order one. Guess that drops my total down to $43.54, except that the pearl wasn't free, so I will use the value of the Hana Lima rosette anyway, and my total is back to $54.54

Thanks for looking....not that anyone is looking but I tend to end my picture posts with that, so why change?

Listen, I'm not suggesting that people go out of their way not to care, but it was brought to my attention that nobody cares. If anyone happens to accidentally care, that's great! The rest of you can go on not caring.
Thanks Wud and Alex!

The inside the soundbox rossette is pearl. Tony gets confused. . .

It's faux pearl with a painted on abalone pattern. Not that you all care.

Ok. It's real abalone. I call any shell product pearl. Even the clam.

I glued on some braces tonight and the bridge patch. I don't know if I will add any more braces or not. I think maybe a tone bar or two. Time will tell.
Braces were cut from scrap spruce brace material. I don't know if I should assign a value or not. The brace block was $5.00 and was supposed to be enough for one guitar. These are the left overs and a piece of a sound board cut off for the bridge patch. Any thoughts?

I think you may have cut your work-board a little over sized.

NTAC, but I did some stuff. Cut some pieces off of the neck blank I had to make a stacked heel.
Image

Then I glued it up:
Image

Then I glued on the two tone bars I plan on using. I cut them so they would not touch the bridge patch. Why? I don't know. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Image

I quickly realized I made the heel stack too big and that means I will have to cut it down quite a bit. That is better than making it too small I guess. Next up, a scarf joint for the headstock. NTAC, but thats what I will be doing.

Is the heel too big? I just thought this was going to be a DEEP bodied uke.

Not big like that, it's big as though I were doing a Spanish heel. I'm not. So I will need to chop off some of the length.

Nice looking work, Tony. That koa should look awesome under lacquer (assuming you're using lacquer). Not that I care though...

I am using a one piece back for this ukulele but the orphan back plate I had was about 3/8ths too narrow. I probably could have covered the shortfall with binding and purfling, but I don't want to take the chance that it would not, so I added wings.

I know that nobody cares, but I think I need to post in order to comply with the rules showing how I did this.

Thanks for not looking.

I would answer you and say that I am using lacquer, but it wouldn't matter because you don't care. So I wont tell you that.

I received a PM the other day, by accident of course, and the person who sent it accidentally mentioned they had some Ukulele tuners that I could have for free. Then, they accidentally put them in an envelop and completely unintentionally went to the post office and mailed them. They arrived the other day and they are very nice. I wanted to thank the person who sent them but they don't care......to be mentioned. In any event, and not that the person who sent them cares, and not that anyone reading this cares, but here is a pic of my accidental, free of caring tuners:
Image

I would like to say thanks but again, the person responsible does not care to be revealed because then they might get some flack for actually reading this thread.

Wait! You're Tony Costa? the Tony Costa? Of Costa Guitars? Wow!

You're not fooling anyone. We all know you fabricated this story so you didn't have to count the tuners against your bottom line. Nobody would send you anything for this project.

That's right. I'm him. He is me. As I said, the whole thing was an accident.
